Medicinal Plants and Human Health Care-A Preliminary Case Study from Raniganj Block, Burdwan District, West Bengal

This paper illuminates on indigenous knowledge for treating some human diseases using plant derived drugs recorded from tribal and rural areas of Raniganj block of Burdwan district, West Bengal. All information collected is based on interview and observation and, cross checked with other herbal doctors. From the study area 33 plant species belonging to 26 families of Angiosperms were recorded. These plants are used by the inhabitants for treating different diseases and disorders. Botanical names, local names and family of these plants plant parts used and method of adminstration are documented in the present communication.
