Occurrence of Red Coral Kukri Snake in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal

The Red Coral Kukri Snake, Oligodon kherensis was first recorded in 1936 at Kheria area of Uttar Pradesh. A dead snake was found on that time and the scientific name was given on the basis of locality. After that it was found at Birnagar of Nepal. And then there was no report of this snake. In 2010 it was found at Siristala of Jalpaiguri town. And after that in 2012 upto July four specimens have been recorded at Jalpaiguri town (Pande, 2012). It is a nonpoisonous snake and locally known as Rakta Prabal Kukri Sap. On personal communication it is known that herpetologists Mr. Romulus Whitaker and Mr. Dipak Mitra have seen this snake in North Bengal.
