An Updated Systematic List of Isopod Fauna of India

An inventory of isopod fauna of India comprising of 311 species belonging to 133 genera, 38 families and 8 suborders, representing about 2.8% of the total isopod fauna of the world, has been prepared and communicated. It includes 10 introduced species which have established in Indian coasts. Among 8 suborders, the suborder Cymothoidea represents 55% of the recorded species in India, followed by Oniscidea (27%). At the family level, Bopyridae belonging to the suborder Cymothoidea represents the highest number of species (53), followed by Cymothoidae (52) of the same suborder.
