North Bengal is a land of enormous natural beauties and diverse bioresources including aquaresources. Ichthyofaunal resource may be the paradigm aquaresource owing to assemblage of two Indian river systems, viz., Gangetic and Brahmaputra river systems which remain unexplored in the PA's of forest in North Bengal. So far, no proper study of cat fish diversity and the abundance of these fishes along with threats and conservation measures and/ or restoration in their natural habitat was conducted except the present one (2006-2012). As such, family-wise list of cat fishes, adhesive apparatus with photographs and figures, threat, restoration and overall conservation measures have been emphasized elaborately in the present paper.
