The Oarbuk-Chushul area, an easternmost part of the Shyok Tectonic Zone within the Indian territory, is dominated by three main lithologies i.e., the Tangse Porphyritic Granite, ophiolitic melange and Ladakh Batholith. A tectonic mixture of basic volcanics with pillow lava, rare serpentinite and flyschoidal sediments constitute the melange sequence. Northern flank of the Ladakh Batholith is exposed in this region. Beside the main batholith, there are intrusive granitic bodies within the Shyok Tectonic Zone. To the north, Tangse Porphyritc Granite forms a thin but continuous belt.
