Genus Thalmannita (Foraminifera) from the Niniyur Formation (Paleocene), Ariyalur Area, South India

Thalmannita in the South Indian Paleocene, outside the West European and Tethyan biogeographic realms, is recorded for the first lime. The genus has two existing species madrugaensis and hajeezi. The following four new species are added namely, Thalmannita niniyurensis n.sp. T. adanakurchchensis n.sp., T. gowdai n.sp. and T. sastryi n.sp. The Thalmannita is a well known guide fossil of the Paleocene age.
