On the Phase Transformation of Bauxite Phutkapahar Bauxite Deposit, Madhya Pradesh, India

Optical, X-ray, D.T.A. and Scanning Electron Microscopic studies on the gibbsitic bauxite samples of Phutkapahar bauxite deposits, Madhya Pradesh are presented. Natural gibbsite changes to boehmite -----→ γ·A1203 --- --→ α·A1203 in response to variable thermal kinetics. The transformation is topotactic, diffusion controlled and is largely defined by both homogeneous and inhomogeneous mechanisms of dehydration.
