Geochemistry of Sedimentary Organics of West Bokaro and Daitonganj Coal Fields, Bihar
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Hydrocarbon source rock charactcristic of three formations - Barakar, Karharbari and Talchir of Gondwana graben in West Bokaro and Daltonganj coal fields are presented in this paper. Talchir Formation is lean in organic matter, whereas Barakar and Karharbari formations deposited in continental peat swamp environments, are rich in organic matter. The organic matter is mainly gas prone with subordinate liquid hydrocarbon generation potential. Maturation parameters such as vitrinite reflectance, T-max of rock eval pyrolysis and methyl phenanthrene index (MPI) indicate that the studied samples are in catagenetic zone of hydrocarbon generation.
