Basis of Leadership - Character or Conscience ?

Is Leadership just a show of some skill-sets ?There are some common areas between leadership and 'guruship'. It is not enough a leader being a person of character and competence, who is unable to influence others similarly to bring out the best in others. All the expertise and experience of the leader will be useless unless exploited by others for specific purpose, to achieve specific targets within a specific time frame.
