Modular Correspondences and their Representations

In the works of Hecke, Petersson, Maass, and other modern writers certain linear operators T_n have been used to find relations between the coefficients of modular forms and of corresponding Dirichlet series. Although this idea has already brought rich success we have to bear in mind that the operators T_n are nothing but special representations of correspondences of special algebraic varieties.
