On the Bending of Thin Uniformlyloaded Elastic Plates Bounded by Certain Quartic Curves

It is only in a few cases, namely, in those of thin circular and elliptic plates* that the exact solutions of the equations of equlibrium can be expressed in finite number of terms. The forms of the plates bounded by inverses of ellipses, lemniscates or limacons that have been treated in this paper, are no doubt very rare but from mathematical point of view the results are interesting as they can be expressed in finite and simple terms.
