Easy Group Theory

Professor G. A. Miller, of the University of Illinois, has contributed to the Scientific Monthly a popular exposition of the 'Theory of Groups' in an article entitled Easy Group Theory. The fact that the University of Paris recently founded a Chair of "Theory of Groups and Calculus of Variations" has given occasion to the writer to draw the attention of scientific men to the 'essence of a mathematical group and the role which the group concept is assuming in modern mathematical developments.'
