On Hartmann-and-Neutral-Point Type Mhd Flow in a Duct
Subscribe/Renew Journal
The behaviour of steady-state two-dimensional ow of a unidirectional solution is investigated for the cases of a uniform transverse magnetic eld (Hartmann ow) and that of a conducting liquid-metal ow near a magnetic neutral point. The action of Lorentz forces upon the metal yields the electromagnetic braking when the ow impinges upon a d. c. magnetic eld region. The numerical studies analyse the nonlinear ow to be unidirectional and linear close to a magnetic neutral point. This linear ow structure agrees well with analytic solutions for ow through an innitely extended magnetic neutral point. We subsequently derive from one of a family of magnetic stream functions that permits such unidirectional flow.
