This book is a welcome addition to the limited literature on the subject in India. From the 1990's, power sector in India (and many parts of the world) has been undergoing massive change. There have been changes in the policy framework, ownership and the regulatory mechanisms. It is true that these changes have been captured by many authors in theme-based articles, general newspaper articles and many rhetoric-filled pamphlets. This book offers a serious study of the Indian power sector (with many specific examples drawn from Kerala) and touches upon a wide spectrum of issues related to the Indian power sector. In these times when the State is withdrawing from its role of protecting public interest, this book is very useful to all civil society groups working on different aspects of the power sector.
