Focusing on six centuries, ranging from the time of Ghiasuddin Balban to the assassination of Indira Gandhi, leading to the massacre of Sikhs, Delhi celebrates the city of Delhi, its glory, its mystique and its cosmopolitanism. As the author-narrator undertakes an epic journey in time, he comes across many people, emperors and eunuchs, poets and prostitutes, saints and soldiers who have participated or have been witnessed to major historical upheavals wherein some of them take the task of throwing light on their personal lives and on the times in which they lived.
