Andhra Pradesh Model of MGNREGS Implementation

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) is the only wage employment programme, which has been implemented for a long time to provide employment guarantee to rural poor in India. Andhra Pradesh, comprising the Telangana region, stood as one of the better-performing States in implementing MGNREGS with its administrative set-up and adopted technological initiatives. It is captivating to critically examine the model of undivided Andhra Pradesh and its performance since the inception of MGNREGS. An attempt was made to analyse the model followed by Andhra Pradesh that makes the State a better performer. How far has MGNREGS achieved its objectives in Andhra Pradesh with such a model? The present paper explores answers to these questions for the period from 2006 to 2016.
