Some Characteristics of Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate Mixtures
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Light scattering, electrical conductance, surface tension and its lonering by calcium and magnesium ions in solutions of mixed isomers and homologs of linear alkyl benzene sulfonates have been studied. The studies indicate that the critical micelle concentration in the mixed surfactant systems is appreciably lower than that for individual homologs in solution. Even ppm levels of calcium and magnesium ions were sufficient to produce large decrease in surface tension. The significance of the above observations in commercial use of LAS is discussed.
