Aggregation and Phase Behaviour of PEO/PPO/PEO Block Copolymers and Their Mixtures in Water

Aqueous solutions of several polyethylene oxide/polypropylene oxide/polypropylene oxide copolymers (PEO/PPO/PEO) and their mixtures were examined from cloud point (CP), static and dynamic light scattering measurements. Mixtures of PEO/PPO/PEO copolymers with different molecular characteristics in some cases showed CP higher than the CPs of the individual components. The aggregation and phase behaviour of these mixed nonionic polymeric surfactants are explained on the basis of mixed micelle formation, micellar growth and transitions.
