Preparation of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of non-amphiphilic 2-aminoanthracene (2AA) in a polymer matrix, namely poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) has been reported. Isotherms of surface pressure versus area per molecule at different compositions are measured. Miscibility of 2AA and PMMA has been studied from the pressure-area isotherms by using surface rule and excess area criterion. Miscibility studies reveal that repulsive interaction is dominant in the 2AA/PMMA system. This repulsive interaction may facilitate aggregate formation in the mixed film. Morphological study of the mixed LB films undoubtedly confirms the existence of microcrystalline domains.

Abstract

Miscibility studies reveal that repulsive interaction is dominant in the 2AA/PMMA system. This repulsive interaction may facilitate aggregate formation in the mixed film. Morphological study of the mixed LB films undoubtedly confirms the existence of microcrystalline domains.
