The photophysical (visible and fluorescence) behaviours of the dye Safranine T have been studied in micellar solution (non-ionic and ionic surfactants) in presence of carbohydrates such as glucose, sucrose and maltose. The dependence of the dye behaviour at the micellar interface in presence of carbohydrates is shown by the Stokes shift which varies directly with concentration of carbohydrates in micellar medium. The solvent properties viz, Kosower-Z values, ET(30) and dielectric constants of micelles in presence of carbohydrates have been intimated from the Stokes shift.

Abstract

The photophysical (visible and fluorescence) behaviours of the dye Safranine T have been studied in micellar solution (non-ionic and ionic surfactants) in presence of carbohydrates such as glucose, sucrose and maltose. The dependence of the dye behaviour at the micellar interface in presence of carbohydrates is shown by the Stokes shift which varies directly with concentration of carbohydrates in micellar medium. The solvent properties viz, Kosower-Z values, ET(30) and dielectric constants of micelles in presence of carbohydrates have been intimated from the Stokes shift.
