Photoelectrochemical Cell Consisting of Phospholipid and Erythrosin-B in Artificial Biological Membrane

The systems consisting of erythrosin B dye in sonicated aqueous dispersion of phospholipids such as phosphatidylcholine (PC), lyso-PC and Ca-salt of phosphorylcholine chloride generate photovoltage when studied in a photoelectrochemical cell. The open-circuit photovoltage, the short- circuit current and solar energy efficiency of these systems have been determined. The fluorescence spectra show that the fluorescence intensity of the dye is quenched in presence of phospholipid liposome while the absorption spectra of the dye are unperturbed in presence of phospholipid. Tlie Stern-Volmer constant (Ksv) as well as quenching rate constant (Kq) have been determined. All the experimental evidence support the excited state interaction of erythrosin B with phospholipid in liposome.
