The present study focuses on the concept propounded by Dr. Julian Rotter that the locus of control of an employee is internal, it moderates the relationship between organisational stress and the job satisfaction level in the individual and investigates this phenomena. The results of the study indicate a negative correlation between organisational stress and job satisfaction levels among employees and strengthens the view that the internal locus of control is a powerful moderator which lessens the amount of stress experienced by an individual and thus, leads to higher job satisfaction.

Purpose: The purpose of the study intends to explore the effect of Internal Locus of Control as a moderator on the relationship between Organisational Stress and Job Satisfaction.

Design, Methodology and Approach: The present study was done on a sample of 150 managers belonging to Private Sector Organisations of Uttrakhand region. For the analysis of data, descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Hierarchical regression analysis were carried out. Three standard instruments were taken for the present research.

Findings: Organisational stress is shown to be inversely related to job satisfaction. Internal locus of control was found to lessen the stress level of the employees, thereby indirectly affecting job satisfaction. It was found that the Internal locus of control moderated the Organisational stress and Job satisfaction relationship.

Research Implications: Results confirm the importance of personality dimensions as factors affecting Job satisfaction and the organisational stress faced by employees. It shows that personality related factors may influence the stress levels faced by employees in their respective jobs. By understanding the role and importance of personality variables in reducing the organisational stress, employers can increase employee satisfaction levels, decreasing the employee absenteeism and turnover. The authors feel that the study will be of great help for organisation to understand and know what type of locus of control their employees have and how it impacts their job satisfaction.
