Regional Study of Telecom Technology Options for Indian Rural Education

Today, Modern Information Communication is an indispensable part of human life. It is a fact that the communication innovations at global level are occurring at a very fast rate but its outreach to the population in general and rural population in particular is very poor especially considered in terms underdeveloped and developing nations. Of late, developing nations like India has started giving thrust to developing techniques realizing its immense role in changing the economic and social face of its population. Around 65% of the State's population is living in rural areas. People in rural areas should have the same quality of life as is enjoyed by people living in suburban and urban areas. Further, there are cascading effects of poverty, unemployment, poor and inadequate infrastructure in rural areas on urban centers causing slums and consequential social and economic tensions manifesting in economic deprivation and urban poverty. Hence, rural development implies both the economic betterment of people as well as greater social transformation. In order to provide the rural people with better prospects for economic development, increased participation of people in the rural development programmes, decentralisation of planning, better enforcement of land reforms and greater access to credit are envisaged. This study is to demonstrate the effective contribution of ICT to the socio-economic development of villages in Marathwada and Vidarbha Regions of Maharashtra.
