During Machining enormous amount of coolant is applied at the cutting zone, the basic functionalities of the coolant being cooling, lubricating and flushing of chips. Generally the cutting fluids are of mineral base oils with additives such as Sulphur, Phosphorous and Chlorine. These fluids along with the swarf result in a mist during operation, which is extremely harmful when inhaled and also a serious hazard when exposed to skin resulting in disorders. The use of such cutting fluids poses a potential hazard to the work personnel and the working environment. After usage of these coolants proper care is to be taken during disposal. The presence of aromatic hydrocarbons causes environmental pollution.
