Strategic Intellectual Property Portfolio Management Technology Appraisal by Using the "Technology Heat Map"

Technology Heat Map is an analysis solution tool developed by Nomura Research Institute. This method analyses the status of patent applications filed in specific technology fields and provides visualization of the technology fields that each company is focusing on as well as highly competitive fields. Accordingly this map can be applied as an analytical method to support the formulation of R&D strategies, the search for target companies for Merger & Acquisition (M&A) and the evaluation of intellectual property (IP) portfolios. The following sections outline the new solutions and applications of such solutions in formulating a company's future management strategy (R&D strategy, M&A strategy, etc.).
