The Effect Volume Fraction on the Mechanical Characteristics of AL6082/SiCp Metal Matrix Composites:Effect of Forging and Ageing

The effect of forging and ageing on the mechanical properties of matrix composites has been observed. Al6082 reinforced with three different fractions of SiCp (5%, 10% & 20%, by %wt) in the forged and ageing conditions are studied. The samples were characterized by optical microscopy, hardness test and tensile test. The results show considerable improvements in mechanical properties due to forging and ageing heat treatment of the metal matrix composites.
