This paper presents recent development for increasing the productivity in machining of ∅ 5"-welded low-carbon low-alloy steel drill pipes. Different mechanisms have been used for machining of the welded drill pipes earlier giving moderate results. The shearing method associate with friction welding operation that has been developed and implemented in one of the local industries is presented in this paper. The newly developed method gives the high volume of production at minimum cost within the stipulated final parameters of welded pipes.

Different mechanisms have been used for machining of the welded drill pipes earlier giving moderate results. The shearing method associate with friction welding operation that has been developed and implemented in one of the local industries is presented in this paper.
