Mathematical Modeling for Determining the Effects of Welding Voltage, Current, Wirefeed Rate and Traverse Speed on Bead Volume of Bead-on-Plate Weldment in Submerged Arc Welding
Subscribe/Renew Journal
A nonlinear mathematical model has been aimed to develop to reveal the effects of welding voltage, current, wirefeed rate and traverse speed on bead volume of bead-on-plate weldment In submerged arc welding (SAW). Experiments were conducted with different levels of process parameters on M.S. plates to obtain bead-on-plate weld. Important bead geometry parameters like bead width, bead height, and depth of penetration have been measured for each experimental runs. Assuming unit length of the job and bead cross sectional area to be in the form of an circular sector, approximate bead volume has been calculated. All these data have been utilized to develop mathematical model for prediction of bead volume. Multiple linear regression method has been employed to calculate the coefficients of the model. The significance of the coefficients for each of the factors In the models has been calculated by Analysis of Variance Method (ANOVA). The relevant model statistics are also shown. The predictions as given by the model haven been represented graphically to show the influence of the selected process control parameters on bead volume associated with submerged arc weldment.
