The Purpose of the Spectroscopic Analysis of EDM Arc Plasma
Electrical discharge machining (EDM) is a method of thermal process using arc plasma which is generated between the tool electrode and workpiece by discharge. Investigating the characteristics of EDM arc plasma is therefore important and necessary to understand the machining phenomenon and improve machining characteristics. In this study, temperature distribution and relative vapor density of electrode material in arc plasma are measured by spectroscopy using the fluxes radiated from arc plasma. Then, the purpose of this study is to understand EDM mechanism from measurement results. The facts clarified in this study can also be used as the basic data which will make simulation of EDM more realistic.
