The Society for Electronic Transactions and Security (SETS) has developed a point-to-point secure communication system for the bulk encryption unit (BEU). Essentially software and an algorithm embedded in a chip, the 'Secrecy System Version 3,’ (SS v-3) provides communication confidentiality services at the network level, claimed M.S. Vijayaraghavan, executive director of SETS. The BEU supports simultaneous two-way communication with automatic synchronisation of data at a minimum rate of 2 Mbps and a maximum of 134 Mbps. Most systems currently in operation have a maximum rate of 2 Mbps, he said.
