Modeling and Synthesizing of Drum CAM Mechanism for Printing Machine
Subscribe/Renew Journal
In a concurrent engineering environment, modeling and synthesizing of mechanism for specific industrial application through CMC Technology is becoming very advanced and may eventually dominate the product development process. Modeling and synthesis strategy plays vital role in improving company competitiveness through the fast adoption of modifications to the original design. The availability and affordability of advanced computing facility has paved the way for increasing utilization of prototypes that are created in computer-based environment. An increasing number of manufacturing organizations are placing direct emphasis on operations improvement as a means of achieving competitive success. Small and medium enterprises generally lack the resources in capital, time and expertise to implement business process re-engineering.
This paper discusses the drum Cam-roller follower mechanism used in printing machine and the problem associated in its functioning. Analyzing the failure of drum Cam-roller follower mechanism, it has been found that the roller often fails due to improper profile generated in the drum conventionally. The mechanism failure was rectified with proper modifications using modeling and synthesis with ruled surface to the follower and an offset curve solution to Cam contour profile by adopting CNC machining. A software program has been developed to house all of the critical data pertaining to the manufacture of Cylindrical Cam Roller Follower using I-DEAS, and M.S. OFFICE-EXCEL software.
