The banking industry in India consists of banks from Public, Privater, foreign sector as well as cooperative banks. In the post liberalization of Indian economy in 1991, foreign banks have brought modern technology and customer orientation to the Indian banking industry. Private sector banks also grew at a faster pace after liberalization. The present study attempts to evaluate the performance of SBI, ICICI and HSBC through CAMEL model for the period 2005-10. The present study is based on twenty sub-parameters of the variables such as Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality, Management Efficiency, Earnings Quality. The study brings out the comparative efficiency of leading public, private and foreign banks of India.
