Remote sensing is a multi-disciplinary activity which deals with the inventory, monitoring and assessment of natural resources through the analysis of data obtained by observations from a remote platform. It is the science/technology of making inferences about material objects from measurements made at a distance without coming into physical contact with the object under study. When viewed in this context, remote sensing covers various disciplines from astronomy to laboratory testing of materials.
