The pteromalid genus Gastracanthus Westwood (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea: Pteromalidae) belongs to the tribe trigonoderini, which is presently placed in the subfamily Pteromalinae (Boucek, 1988). In the cladistic analysis of the world genera of Trigonoderini, Heydon (1997) revised the genus Gastracanthus and also described a new species from the Oriental region (Taiwan).
