Aim of the study: Pharmacognostic and Phytochemical evaluation of oleogum resin of Boswellia serrata Roxb (Burseraceae) is valuable consideration for the recognition as well as excellence purpose.

Materials and Methods: The pharmacognostic evaluation of the plant included morphology and microscopy of the oleo gum resin, leaf and bark. The phytochemical screening of the oleo gum resin of the plants was carried out by successive extraction. Thin layer chromatography and high performance thin layer chromatography method were performed for the identification of chemical constituents present in the oleo gum resins.

Results: Results of the present study revealed that the leaves as well as bark of Boswellia serrata were evaluated morphologically and microscopically. Microscopy of leaf and bark shows the characters of dicotyledonous plants Boswellia serrata. Phytochemical screening parameters were established from the oleo gum resin of the plant. TLC of the isolated boswellic acids were performed for the identification. The Rf values obtained in TLC plate was indicated the presence of different types of the boswellic acids which is match with standard Rf values.

Conclusion: From the present study, the Pharmacognostical analysis of plant Boswellia serrata confirms the authenticity of the plant. Examination of TLC confirmed the presence of different types of boswellic acids. The examination of isolated boswellic acids through HPTLC showed four peaks which give the identity of four types of boswellic acids.
