Tephrosiapurpurea (Linn.) Pers., a popular Indian medicinal plant, has long been used commonly in Ayurvedicand unani system of medicine. In the present review, an attempt has been made to explore a literature survey on its traditional uses, established phytochemical studies and pharmacological properties. The whole plant as well as specific parts such as ischolar_mains, leaves, seeds and bark have been widely used and shows the different pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, anti-ulcer, anti-epileptic, antibiotic, anticarcinogenic, antilipidperoxidative, wound healing, antidiabetic, antioxidant etc.
