Anti-inflammatory drugs presently available for the treatment of various inflammatory disorders have diverse and undesirable side effects. In recent years; active principles of varied chemical structures have been isolated from plants possessing anti-inflammatory activity. The main objective of the present investigation is to evaluate the anti-inflammatory property of chloroform, distilled water, ethanol and ethyl acetate leaf extract of Heterostemma tanjorense Wight and Arn. in albino rates using the Carrageenan induced left hind paw edema. In the study it was observed that the chloroform, distilled water, ethanol and ethyl acetate extracts were significantly inhibit paw edema induced by carrageenan in rats. The ethanolic extract showed a promising anti-inflammatory property when compared with the chloroform, distilled water and ethyl acetate extract.
