Application of Ultrasonic Behaviour to Study Free Volume and Internal Pressure in Aqueous Solution of Lithium Formate and Lead Acetate

In the present work free volume Vf and internal pressure πi have been detemined in aqueous solutions of Lithium Formate and Lead Acetate for six different concentrations within the temperature range of 30°C to 55°C. The ultrasonic velocity measurements have been determined using fixed frequency 2 MHz variable path electro acoustic interferometer and Ostwald Viscometer is used for viscosity measurements. The concentration dependence of viscosity was explained by Jones-Dole equation. The coefficients A and B the above equation have been studied at different temperatures in both the systems. Further, the difference in internal pressure πi has been evaluated in each system which gives an idea about the effect of cohesive forces in ion-solvent interaction. It is understood that sensitive information regarding the cohesive forces is well obtained by the data of Δπi instead of the coefficients A and B of the Jones-Dole equation.
