Putting brakes to affluence is the crying need of the hour. It is not something against development but there must be an optimum balance between ecological development and use of ecological resources. Most of the previous civilizations were destroyed less because of foreign invasions and more because of the neglect of ecological resources. There is a peril of survival to Mother Earth. Continous rape of Mother Earth is going on in the name of so-called development. Forest cover is depleting fast. Sea level is rising. Himalaya is melting fast. Climate change is a serious threat to the civilization. Earth gives us in abundance but takes back in equal measure when it is exploited in a mindless manner. Nations must go in for sustainable development at any cost or be prepared to perish.
