Hybrid systems with energy storage can offer a level of stability and higher penetration of intermittent renewable energy. In Alaska, some hybrid systems using wind and hydro along with diesel are seeing great success. In some part of Russia, the wind turbine generators have been part of a diesel-wind hybrid system for years and saving up to 40% of diesel fuel usage.
