Forensic Gene Banking: Issues and Prospects

Differences in individuals on the basis of their genetic make-up are well known. These variations in individuals can now be accurately mapped out and stored. This data is already being used in many countries for solving crimes and there is a possibility of doing the same in India. In spite of the large potential of gene banking in several spheres of life and governance, awareness and adoption is not significant. This article deals with the essential basics of this idea and also tries to explore the various facets of implications surrounding it. The possible complications and questions raised by the society have been considered and some suggestions have been given to show that gene banking is feasible.
