Study of some Socio-etiological Aspects of Dowry Related Deaths at Government Medical College Aurangabd, Maharashtra

Deaths of young brides through suicide or homicide following disputes over the dowry are increasingly a feature of Indian society. To observe the social aspects of dowry related deaths at Aurangabad region, total 109 dowry related dead bodies brought to mortuary of GMCH Aurangabad from April 07 to March 08 were studied. Most of victims were from Hindu religion (68%), living in joint families (83.5%). Most (76.2%) of them belonged to S.E status class IV and were economically dependant on their spouses (79%), most of them were non matriculate and most common manner of death was suicidal.
