Use of Defense Mechanisms by Type A and Type B Personalities

The aim of the present investigation was to study the use of defense mechanisms by type A and type B personalities. Sample consisted of 160 subjects. 80 subjects were those who had type-A behaviour pattern and 80 had type B behaviour pattern. Subjects were selected using type A/B behaviour pattern scale by Dhar and Jain. Defense Mechanism Inventory (DMI) by Mrinal and Mrinal was used to assess the use of defense mechanisms. Results revealed a significant different between Type A and Type B personalities in using different type of defense mechanisms. Results also showed a significant difference between males and females in using defense mechanism.
