Parental Monitoring: A Deciding Factor in Adolescent Health Risk Behavior

The study was conducted among the students of 18-19 years studying in the city of Bangalore. 100 samples were collected in a major educational institutional the students of the institution were the respondents. Simple random sampling was used. The study reveals that about 59% of the adolescents are into one or multiple health risk behaviors and it is parental monitoring, a source of parental influence, which is significantly associated with the overall health risk behavior, (p value <0.05). Parental monitoring is an influence proved to be there deciding the presence or absence of health risk behaviors namely consumption of tobacco, alcohol, drugs and practice of unsafe sex
