Effect of Intervention on Awareness of Menstruation and Menstrual Hygiene among Adolescent Girls from Different Family Background:A Case from Children's Home Kerala, India

Effect of intervention on awareness of menstruation and menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls from different family backgrounds in experimental and control group were compared and studied with the girls, resides in a children's home in Kerala, India. Considered one hundred and twenty adolescent girls with sixty each in experimental and control group. A Quasi-experimental study research design followed. Repeated measure ANOVA revealed a significant overall change (F=449.323; P=.000) in awareness about menstruation scores from pre to post test situation, irrespective of the groups. Found, experimental group had increased its scores by 6.45 scores (pre 9.03, post 15.48), where as in control group it was found minimal changes (pre 8.95, post 9.05). However, change in the scores with respect to family type, interaction with family, and group for change scores were found to be non significant. An adequate information and education, menstruation and menstrual hygiene awareness will increase, which may produce desirable effects on reproductive health status of the future women hood. It is proved through the post test results of the intervention program provided better awareness in menstruation and menstrual hygiene among adolescent girls in the children's home, Kerala. India.
