Recipient of the National Sunshine Peace Award for her work Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is a firm believer in the idea that writers can help to promote peace and joy in this world. This is testified by the fact that in most of her writings as well as interviews she talks about making peace with the difficult choices that life offers. She also believes in the inherent ability of human beings to restore values that can be built up collectively through a concerted effort. Divakaruni is sensitive to the idea that peace is one of the essential attributes for the establishment of an earthly paradise that will emerge through the combination of camaraderie and love. In a speech delivered at the Think Global Arts Foundation, she re-iterated the function of writers whose dreams of peace get reflected in their daily thoughts, words and actions which should be utilized to establish harmony in this trouble ridden environment.

She also believes in the inherent ability of human beings to restore values that can be built up collectively through a concerted effort. Divakaruni is sensitive to the idea that peace is one of the essential attributes for the establishment of an earthly paradise that will emerge through the combination of camaraderie and love.
