To schedule the continuous production of a single product system is relatively not a complex problem and most Nigerian Industries operate outside this area. The small to medium scale industries in Nigeria (which constitute over 98%) operate multi-product intermittent systems using limited resources. Scheduling the production of goods and services in these industries must follow the scientific techniques which optimize the deployment of the limited capacities.

The "first come-fist served" (FCFS) scheduling technique generally and instinctively applied by Nigerian industries often has serious limitations. Unless more professional production scheduling techniques are adopted, Nigerian industries will not realize their potentials.
