Students' Perception of Effective Clinical Teacher Characteristics

Nurse educators' play a pivotal role in mentoring the student nurses of the future. This study aimed to know the student's perception of effective clinical teacher characteristics. The study was conducted among 170 students studying from 1st to 4th year B.Sc., post basic nursing and M.Sc. nursing. The findings of the study showed that, majority of the students (80%) perceived that an effective clinical teacher should be honest towards students and 76.5% demands that the teacher to be competent in nursing skills. Majority (50 students) prefer good teaching method as the effective clinical teacher characteristic. The study also found a weak negative correlation between students' perception and age, and academic performance.
