Proposed Genetic Profiling System Based on Gel Electrophoresis for Forensic DNA Identification
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Context: DNA can be considered as the core of forensic science in courts due to its importance and accuracy and validity. STR analyses were done for 10 profiles using the genetic analyzer, the DNA extracted from FTA cards and sent to profiling step with 15 loci, four loci had been selected according to their diversity (non-similarity). Gel electrophoresis has been applied on the profile’s PCR using a marker designed for only four loci. The neural network had been used to learn about DNA features. The dataset used is 10 gel electrophoresis images. Four features extracted from images (D8S1179, D21S11, D7S820 and FGA) in base-pair, canny edge detection technique had been used along with multiple filters to clarify the images, then fed into the neural network to be learned, and then tested and 100% recognition rate was the result, another DNA-PCR-Gel-electrophoresis has been done to only four of profiles independently and each one of them had successfully identified and recognized. The whole process is about introducing a proposal system to be used as a DNA identification system, which can be used in airports and outlets for fast recognitions of criminal suspects or major events such as airplane crash or terrorist attacks.
