Relationship of Quadriceps and Hamstring Strengthening in Functional Performance in Untrained Female Students
Subscribe/Renew Journal
Material & Methodology: The study was conducted in D.Y. Patil College of Physiotherapy, Pune. 60 untrained samples aged between 18-25 years were selected by simple random sampling and were divided into two groups one for Quadriceps strengthening and other for Hamstring strengthening with each group having 30 samples. Outcome measures ;distance of single leg hop test, triple hop test and vertical jump tests were recorded pre & post training Concentric and Eccentric training for both Quadriceps and Hamstring group was given for 6 week.
Results: There was a significant increase in the single leg hop, triple leg hop and vertical jump in both the groups post training. But when compared between two groups the increase in single leg hop was significantly more in Quadriceps group than the Hamstring group at 6 weeks.
Conclusion: It concludes that in order to improve functional performance both Quadriceps and Hamstrings should be equally strengthened, but Quadriceps alone can be strengthened for single leg hop like performance.
